About WD Blue, Green & Black Desktop HDD
WD Green drives were built for low power and merged into the Blue range in 2015; WD Black drives are the performance line. Model numbers tell you a lot: “EZEX” and “EZRZ” drives are conventional recording, while several newer “EZAZ” models use SMR. WD drives also keep vital firmware modules on the platters, so a damaged service area needs specialist tools.

Is a WD Green drive the same as a Blue?
Since 2015 the Green name has been folded into Blue. The mechanisms differ by model number, which is what we work from.
Can you fix a WD drive that has slowed to a crawl?
Often. Slow WD drives frequently have a firmware or service-area problem that we can work around to image the data.
