Seagate BarraCuda 3.5-inch desktop hard drive data recovery
BarraCuda drives sit inside millions of desktop PCs and DIY NAS boxes. Clicking, beeping or not detected – we recover data from every BarraCuda generation since 2012.
About Seagate BarraCuda Desktop HDD
The 3.5-inch BarraCuda range covers 500GB to 8TB drives. The 2012–2014 models such as the ST2000DM001 and ST3000DM001 are still common in older PCs, and the ST3000DM001 in particular earned a reputation for head and media failures. Newer high-capacity models such as the ST4000DM004 and ST8000DM004 use shingled (SMR) recording, which changes how deleted and overwritten data behaves.

Frequently asked questions
My BarraCuda is clicking. Can I keep trying?
No. Clicking means the heads are failing, and each power-up can scratch the platters. Switch it off and send it in.
Does SMR make recovery harder?
It makes deleted-file recovery less predictable, because the drive rewrites zones in the background. Failed-drive recovery is not affected in the same way.
What happens after I send the drive in?
We carry out a professional evaluation (£94.80), then send you a fixed quote and a list of recoverable files before any recovery work is charged.
