About Samsung NVMe SSD (950–9100)
In early 2023 some 980 PRO and 990 PRO drives were affected by firmware problems that caused rapid health loss, later fixed by Samsung updates. NVMe drives run hot in laptops and small cases, and controller or power failures are the most common reasons they disappear completely.

My 980 PRO disappeared after a firmware warning. Is it recoverable?
Often. Do not keep restarting the PC or attempt more updates. Send the drive for evaluation.
Can you recover data from a Samsung SSD in a laptop with BitLocker?
Yes, provided you supply the BitLocker recovery key.
