About the MacBook Air
From 2018 the storage on MacBook Air is soldered to the logic board and encrypted, so if the Mac won’t start, getting the files back means repairing the board. That is the work we do every day.
Apple silicon models (M1 onwards) have very thin screens that crack easily if something is caught when the lid closes.

Frequently asked questions
Can you get the files off a MacBook Air that won’t turn on?
Usually, yes. The storage is soldered and encrypted, so we repair the board until it boots, then copy the files off.
Can the storage or memory be upgraded?
Not on models from 2018 onwards: both are soldered to the board. The A1466 has a removable SSD that can be upgraded.
How do I find my MacBook model number?
The A-number (for example A2337) is printed in small text on the underside. Apple menu > About This Mac shows the year and size.
