Canvio portable drives are cheap, light and everywhere – and many have the USB socket soldered straight onto the drive. We recover them when they are dropped, broken or not detected.
About Toshiba Canvio External Drives
Many Canvio drives do not use a separate USB adapter: the USB port is part of the hard drive’s own circuit board. A snapped port therefore needs a board repair or a specialist adapter rather than a new case. Inside is usually an MQ01 or MQ04 laptop mechanism.

Frequently asked questions
Can a new cable fix my Canvio?
Only if the cable is at fault. A loose socket on the drive board needs soldering work, not a new cable.
Will opening the case void anything important?
The data matters more than the case. Please do not open it yourself, though – the drive itself must not be opened outside a clean room.
