About Synology DiskStation 2- & 4-Bay
Synology NAS units use SHR or standard RAID with Btrfs or ext4 file systems. A “volume crashed” message usually means the array or file system needs rebuilding, not that the data is gone. Some 2015-era models with Intel Atom C2000 processors, such as the DS415+, were affected by a known processor fault that stopped them booting – the drives inside remain recoverable.

Frequently asked questions
Synology says the volume crashed. Should I repair it in DSM?
Not if drives are showing errors. A repair can make things worse. Power down and contact us.
My DS415+ will not turn on. Are my files lost?
No. The fault is usually on the board. We recover the data directly from the drives.
