Data recovery from liquid-damaged MacBooks

Coffee, water or wine in a MacBook causes corrosion that keeps spreading after the spill. What you do in the first hour has a big effect on whether your data comes back.

Data recovery from liquid-damaged MacBooks

Why spills are urgent

Liquid bridges contacts on the logic board. With power applied, current flows where it should not and corrosion forms quickly around chips and connectors. On most current MacBooks the storage is soldered to that same board and encrypted to it, so a damaged board can block access to otherwise healthy data.

How we recover it

We open the MacBook, assess the board under magnification and clean corrosion with ultrasonic and chemical methods. Damaged components on the power circuits are replaced at board level until the Mac can run long enough to copy your data. Older models with removable SSDs can often be read directly once the drive itself is cleaned.

What it costs

Every job starts with a professional evaluation (£94.80). You then get a fixed quote and a list of recoverable files before any recovery work is charged. As a guide, liquid-damage recoveries usually need board work and fall in our £650–£2,800 range, depending on the extent of corrosion.

Frequently asked questions

My MacBook still works after the spill. Is it safe?

Not necessarily. Corrosion can take days to cause a failure. Back up immediately, then have the board cleaned.

Does putting it in rice help?

No. Rice does not remove liquid from under chips, and the delay lets corrosion build. Bring it in instead.

Will AppleCare cover the data?

AppleCare can repair or replace the hardware, but a replacement board means your data does not come back. Recover the data first.

Talk to an engineer

Describe the problem and the make and model if you know it. We will reply with a price and the fastest way to get it fixed, usually the same working day.
