Mac SSD and Fusion Drive failure recovery
Fusion Drive iMacs and Mac minis, removable Apple blade SSDs and soldered storage all fail differently. We recover from each type, using the method the hardware allows.

Three kinds of Mac storage
Fusion Drive joins a small SSD and a hard drive into a single volume. If either part fails, the whole volume becomes unreadable, so both devices have to be recovered and recombined.
Removable Apple blade SSDs in many 2013–2015 Macs use a proprietary connector. We read them directly with the correct adapters.
Soldered storage in most newer MacBooks and all Apple silicon Macs is part of the logic board and encrypted to its security chip. Data can only be read through that original board, so recovery means getting the board working.
How we recover it
We identify the model and storage type first. Fusion Drives are imaged as two devices and rebuilt as one virtual volume. Blade SSDs are imaged through adapters with failing-media tools. For soldered storage we diagnose the board and repair what stops it reaching the storage, then copy the data off while the Mac runs.
What it costs
Every job starts with a professional evaluation (£94.80). You then get a fixed quote and a list of recoverable files before any recovery work is charged. As a guide, SSD and Fusion Drive failures usually fall in our £650–£1,200 band; completely dead SSDs or boards needing repair can reach £1,400–£2,800.
Frequently asked questions
Can you remove the SSD from my MacBook and read it?
Only if your model has a removable SSD. On soldered models the data is encrypted to the board, so recovery has to happen through the original logic board.
Is my Fusion Drive data split between two drives?
Yes. macOS spreads files across the SSD and the hard drive, so both parts are needed for a complete recovery.
Should I keep restarting the Mac to see if it comes back?
No. Repeated starts put extra wear on failing storage. Shut it down and send it in.
